I’m Catalin – a proud celiac, expat in Florence, and your go-to gluten-free travel consultant.
In 2016, my world was turned upside down when I suddenly became ill with a mystery illness. After months of bouncing from specialist to specialist, and being tested for everything from the flu to cancer, I finally got an answer: celiac disease.
While it was a relief to put a name to my suffering, the diagnosis flipped my life on its head. What was gluten, and why did I need to avoid it like the plague? I felt completely lost, and my love for adventure and travel seemed impossible.
How could I ever eat anywhere besides my own kitchen again?
Determined to regain my health and zest for life, I spent years healing my body.
In 2019, I decided to take control of my wellbeing and enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, becoming a Certified Health Coach. The following year, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Applied Medical Anthropology. This journey included six incredible months of solo travel through Europe, where I wrote my thesis on how different cultures approach gluten-free eating and how it affects the quality of life for celiacs.
And that journey led me here, to beautiful Florence, Italy, the place I now proudly call home.
During my travels, I fell head over heels for Italian culture and this enchanting city. Living here has completely transformed my perspective on living with celiac disease. It’s shown me that a medically-necessary gluten-free diet doesn't have to be a limitation—it can be a gateway to experiencing the world in a whole new way. Now, I’m on a mission to make Italy—and all things Italian—accessible to fellow celiacs.
My mission: To make Italy and its rich, vibrant culture accessible and enjoyable for anyone who needs to eat gluten-free.
Now I offer personalized,
